The crowded worlds of music festivals and technology conferences are converging in a three-day, invite-only gathering of what press materials for the event describe as “a community of nomads, dreamers and explorers in an awe-inspiring desert location.”
The inaugural Further Future, set to take place in Las Vegas May 1 through May 3, will be open only to attendees who are approved by the event organizers. Those who wish to attend must submit a description of themselves, which will be considered as part of the organizers’ effort to “ensure that those invited have a basic understanding and appreciation of the Further Future values.”
Among the tech-world heavyweights scheduled to speak are Zappos C.E.O. Tony Hsieh and Google X’s Astro Teller. Executives from SoundCloud and Evernote are also included, as is cellist and composer Zoë Keating.
Attendees of the event can choose between a number of “boutique camping options,” which start at $650 for a private unit with no air conditioning and extend beyond a $3,200 large-group suite that comes fully furnished and can sleep up to 10 people. A so-called Gypset Village will host at least one 16-foot luxury tent, which comes with “private staffed Bedouin lounges,” “a nomadic spa,” and around-the-clock food and refreshments. The price for this premium option is only available to those who apply and are approved for the “Gypset Experience.”
On Saturday night, guests who purchase tickets to a special dinner will be seated in a semi-circle, an attempt at “creating community seating.” Sam Marvin, of the steakhouse Echo & Rig, will cater the dinner.
The festival’s musical program includes Warpaint, Rhye, Bob Moses, and the Henry Saiz Band, among others. The Robot Heart Art Car—a famous fixture of Burning Man—will, according to press materials for the festival, “soundtrack each sunrise.” [Vanity Fair]
