AWOLNATION

Using tagging data from Shazam, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music, Billboard partners with Clio Music each month to present a chart ranking the top songs in commercials. Rankings exclude any song that has recently charted within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Billboard and Clio Music Top Commercials

Red Bull’s ‘World Of Red Bull” commercial (a world that appears to include lots of extreme sports and music festivals) rockets AWOLNATION’s “I Am” to No. 1 on Billboard & Clio Music’s Top Commercials powered by Shazam.

The act (led by Aaron Bruno) is signed to Red Bull Records, a subsidiary company of the energy drink. The song logs the greatest number of Shazams on this month’s chart and the video of the commercial has racked up over 3.5 million YouTube views since its debut April 12. Sales of the track jumped 1,537 percent the week of April 19 and the song also sported a 68 percent increase in streams the following week (April 26.)

“I Am” is the next single from AWOLNATION’s sophomore album, Run (which debuted at No. 4 on the Top Rock Albums chart dated April 4) and peaked at No. 29 on the Rock Digital Songs list dated May 16th.
At No. 4 on the April tally, the Covergirl Rockbellas perform an a cappella cover of Pink’s “F**kin’ Perfect” as part of a campaign and makeup line for the Pitch Perfect 2 movie. The clip of five female performers (not actresses from the film, but chosen for the commercial) has over 9.4 million views on YouTube.

Although the song is not commercially released, Matthew Koma ranks at No. 11 on the chart with “Hold On Tight,” powered by Shazam tags alone.  The track is featured in a highly-theatrical commercial, that tells the sentimental story of a father and son and their baking business. The full-length commercial has over 1 million views on YouTube.
