Twenty One Pilots is soaring to a likely No. 1 debut on next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart. Industry forecasters suggest the duo’s new set, Blurryface, could move over 120,000 equivalent album units in the week ending May 24.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Billboard 200’s top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, May 27.
Blurryface is the follow-up to Twenty One Pilots’ Vessel, which has sold 261,000 copies according to Nielsen Music and peaked at No. 58 on the Billboard 200.
Notably, the sales of Vessel have been quite a consistent seller since its release in January of 2013, which indicates the act has been steadily accumulating fans. That is in contrast to how some albums earn the bulk of their sales in a short burst of time — like in the first few weeks or months of release — which could indicate limited fan reach. Vessel has sold more than 1,000 copies per week since its release, but never sold more than 11,000 copies in a single frame. (On average, it has sold 2,000 copies per week.)
Other albums heading for significant debuts on next week’s Billboard 200 chart include Zedd’s True Colors (around 30,000 units) and Brandon Flowers’ The Desired Effect (25,000). [Billboard]
