Demi Lovato

Pop star Demi Lovato heats up the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart (dated July 18) as “Cool for the Summer” bows at No. 3. The seasonal anthem was released through Hollywood Records and Safehouse Records, the latter of which the singer launched in part with Nick Jonas.

“Summer” arrives with 834,000 U.S. streams for the week ending July 5, according to Nielsen Music, which helps spark its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 36. The song possibly picked up extra attention thanks to Lovato’s performances of the cut at several events, most notably a stop in Los Angeles where she fell onstage. “Summer” is the lead single from Lovato’s upcoming fifth album, the follow up to 2013’s Demi, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks is a weekly ranking of the most shared and/or mentioned songs on Twitter in the U.S., ranked by the volume of shares over a seven-day period (Monday to Sunday).

Rihanna Cashes In: Just above “Summer,” Rihanna flies 26-2 with “B**** Better Have My Money” (the track previously debuted at No. 1 on the survey dated April 11). The song is blocked from a repeat in the penthouse as Selena Gomez’s “Good for You,” featuring A$AP Rocky, holds at No. 1 for a second straight week. “Money” rallies following the song’s music video premiere on July 2. The video boosts the song to 9.9 million domestic streams for the week, triggering its rise on the Hot 100 (28-15), Streaming Songs (22-7) and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (8-5).

Kendrick Feels ‘Alright’: Kendrick Lamar scores his sixth top 10 on the year-old Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart with “Alright,” which enters at No. 4. The rapper opened the June 28 BET Awards with the track in a performance that generated slight controversy, with anchors on Fox News’ The Five criticizing the MC for sending “the wrong message” and suggesting Lamar is “anti-police.” Two days later, Lamar dropped the cut’s music video, a commentary on recent events between law enforcement and African Americans. The awards performance and clip helped push the track to 2.7 million U.S. streams for the week, a gain of 385 percent.

Fall Out Boy Celebrates the ‘Fourth’:  Independence Day helps Fall Out Boy light up a No. 35 debut for their song “Fourth of July.” The band tweeted some of the track’s lyrics on the holiday, “May the bridges I have burned light my way back home on the Fourth of July” and several fans alluded to the song on its title date.

The cut fittingly becomes the band’s fourth highest-peaking hit on Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks from their American Beauty/American Psycho album, following “Centuries” (No. 5; Sept. 27, 2014), “Uma Thurman” (No. 22; Jan. 31, 2015) and “Irresistible” (No. 8; March 7, 2015). [Billboard]
