Adele’s “Hello” (Remote Control/Inertia) is the best-selling single in Australia for a third successive week, while Justin Bieber (Def Jam/Universal) lands three tracks in the top 20.
“Hello” retains the No. 1 slot on the new ARIA Singles Chart and earned its second platinum certification in the process. The British singer has now notched up her tenth career week at No. 1 Down Under (her song “Someone Like You” spent seven weeks at the top in 2011).
Adele’s hot streak means Bieber’s “Sorry” has been bumped into the runner-up position for three straight weeks. Though the Canadian pop star has little to complain about. He’s enjoying his best chart year yet in Australia with a No. 3 song (“Where Are U Now”), and his first No. 1 with “What Do You Mean” which this week is at No. 9. Bieber impacts with “I’ll Show You,” another song lifted from his new album Purpose, which rises 29-16. Bieber does manage to turn the tables on Adele on ARIA’s Streaming Tracks Chart, where “Sorry” is holding at No. 1 and “Hello” stays at No. 2.
Bieber’s likely rival for the No. 1 on next week’s albums chart, One Direction, has another top 30 hit with “History” (Syco/Sony) which opens at No. 29. “History” is the fifth track from 1D’s new album Made In The A.M. to crack the top 50 following “Drag Me Down” (No. 1 in August), “Infinity” (No. 22 in October), “Perfect” (No. 4 in October) and “Home” (No. 48 earlier this month).
“History” opens one position ahead of Avicii’s “Broken Arrows” (Universal), which is new at No. 30. It’s the fourth single from the Swedish EDM star’s top 10 album Stories to enter the top 50 after “The Days” (No. 1 in October 2014), “The Nights” (No. 9 in February 2015) and “Waiting For Love” (No. 15 in June 2015).
The King, meanwhile, extends his stay on the ARIA Albums Chart throne. If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RCA/Sony), a collection of Presley’s hits interpreted by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, is at No. 1 for a second week. Presley’s posthumous set manages to hold off three high new entries: Little Mix’ Get Weird (No. 2 via Syco/Sony), Ellie Goulding’sDelirium (No. 3 via Polydor/Universal) and Birds Of Tokyo’s greatest hits set Playlist (No. 4 via EMI).
Homegrown singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko’s first album in three years, Eternal Return (EMI), just misses a top 5 berth. The album — Blasko’s fifth — opens at No. 6, just behind Joe Moore’s A Thousand Lifetimes (Decca/Universal).
