Sony Music Entertainment has entered into an agreement with Set.fm to access its real-time live event recording and distribution platform.

When using Set.fm, live content is recorded as the band plays, and is securely saved to Set.fm’s servers as high quality MP3 files that can be made available for what the firm calls ‘near-instant post-event sales’.

Sony Music artists will now be able to use the entire suite of Set.fm Studio software and all features of its marketing and distribution platform.

This includes Set.fm’s proprietary Live Clip ShareSM which enables fans in the audience to post in social media a real-time sample of what they are listening to, direct from the soundboard; as well as its advanced instant ‘Approve & Release’ workflow tools which allow artists to immediately sell concert recordings online — via Set.fm’s website and consumer mobile app, or through label and artist websites and Facebook Pages, among other channels.

Live recordings can be made available in advance, bundled with tickets, or as ticket up-sells. They also can be offered each night at the merch table utilizing Set.fm’s ‘Virtual Sales Kiosk’ or Download Cards.

The platform supports sponsor-subsidized and branded distribution of content to event attendees.

Among the first crop of Sony artists to begin using the platform is Colombia’s Bomba Estereo who is currently touring North America in support of their Sony Latin release, “Amanecer” (‘Dawn’), and getting global attention for their remix with Will Smith of the song “Fiesta”.

The group have toured across 40 countries, four continents and played major festivals like Glastonbury, Coachella, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Sonar, Roskilde, Vive Latino, among many others.

Attendees of their Fun Fun Fun Fest appearance on November 6th in Austin, TX will be able to get hold of a recording of the band’s performance via Set.fm.

Andre Stapleton, Senior Vice President, Global Business Development and Strategy, Sony Music Entertainment said, “We are pleased to be partnering with Set.fm to offer our artists and labels the option of an end-to-end solution for their live event recording and distribution needs. This agreement provides us with another compelling platform for taking advantage of opportunities to further monetize in the live space.”

Set.fm’s Founder and CEO, Matt Peterson, added: “Every music lover has been to a concert that they’d love to re-live.

“We’re working with artists and labels to create a fan expectation that, in addition to a T-Shirt, they’ll be able to go home with a highly personal and unique recorded memento of their experience.

“We’re excited about our partnership with Sony Music to provide some of today’s hottest artists with access to this new form of digital event merchandise.”
