Imagine Dragons leap from No. 8 to No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated July 15) to become the top musical act in the U.S. for the first time.

The Artist 100, which launched in July 2014, measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

Imagine Dragons’ vault to No. 1, in their 125th week on the chart, is fueled by their new album Evolve, which debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 147,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending June 29, according to Nielsen Music. Album sales contribute the majority of the rock band’s Artist 100 chart points (67 percent), followed by digital song sales (17 percent). Concurrently, the new album’s lead single, “Believer,” hits the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The set also opens at No. 1 on Top Album Sales (109,000 copies sold).

In the Artist 100’s three-year history, only Katy Perry has completed a longer ascent to No. 1 than Imagine Dragons: 149 weeks, a mark set two weeks earlier. Among duos or groups, twenty one pilots had made the longest prior trip to the top: 75 weeks.

DJ Khaled earns a new peak on the Artist 100, pushing 5-2. His new LP, Grateful, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (149,000 units), while two of its singles rank at Nos. 2 and 3 on the Hot 100: “I’m the One,” featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, and “Wild Thoughts,” featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, respectively. Album sales mark Khaled’s greatest Artist 100 points contributor (36 percent), followed by streaming (27 percent) (as Grateful debuts at No. 2 on Top Album Sales with 50,000 sold).

Bruno Mars drops from No. 1 to No. 3 on the Artist 100; Ed Sheeran slips 2-4; and Kendrick Lamar descends 4-5.

ust outside the Artist 100’s top five, Prince re-enters at No. 6, following the reissue of his (and the Revolution’s) Purple Rain soundtrack, which returns to the Billboard 200 at No. 4 (52,000 units). The Artist 100 rank is Prince’s highest in more than a year; he led the list for two weeks in May 2016, following his passing on April 21, 2016.

Elsewhere on the Artist 100, 311 debuts at No. 12, as the rock act’s 12th studio album, Mosaic, starts at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 (39,000 units). Plus, rapper Vince Staples debuts at No. 58, as his new album Big Fish Theory enters the Billboard 200 at No. 16 (25,000).
