Nine Simone was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this past weekend, and several artists took the stage to celebrate her legacy. Lauryn Hill, the Roots, and Andra Day performed a medley of her music, while Mary J. Blige officially inducted her.

Backed by the Roots, Day sang “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free,” and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ song “I Put a Spell on You” (which Simone covered). Hill sang “Ne Me Quitte Pas,” “Black Is the Color of My True Love’s Hair,” and “Feeling Good.” In her speech, Blige talked about Simone’s far-reaching influence. “[H]ip-hop took notice, with artists such as Ms. Lauryn Hill, Kanye West, Common, JAY-Z and myself, amongst others, sampling her extensively,” she said, according to Rolling Stone. Other inductees this year include the Cars, Bon Jovi, the Moody Blues, and Dire Straits.
