A new album by Trent Reznor’s influential band will be out this fall.
Nine Inch Nails announced their signing with Columbia Records this afternoon. The band, fronted by Trent Reznor, whose project How To Destroy Angels is also signed to the label, will release a new album this fall.
“I’ve been less than honest about what I’ve really been up to lately,” Reznor said in a press release. “For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly f—ing great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place.”
NIN’s last album, Year Zero, was released in 2007 before the band went on hiatus in early 2009. Earlier this year Reznor announced that the band had come back together to tour, sparking rumors of new music. The group’s current lineup, Reznor, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Robin Finck and Ilan Rubin, will kick off the tour dates on July 26 at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, and will perform at Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Made In America, Reading & Leeds and Voodoo Festival this summer.
The band’s deal with Columbia follows last year’s announcement that Reznor, a previously outspoken opponent of the major label system, was bringing How To Destroy Angels to the label to release their debut album Welcome Oblivion. Although today’s announcement is the first official confirmation that NIN joined the major label, this deal appears to have been in the works for a while.
