Irving Azoff‘s wife Shelli is responding to an email feud between her husband and WME co-CEO Ari Emanuel that went public Tuesday. In the email exchange, which was prompted by a Financial Times news story about the performance of Live Nation stock in the wake of Irving Azoff’s departure from the company (Emanuel is on the board), the two executives fired off pointed barbs about each other. Emanuel called Azoff (whose son works at WME rival CAA) a “horrible person” and Azoff deemed the top agent a “psychopath.”
The exchange became public because the messages cc-ed several top executives, including Paramount’s Brad Grey, Cablevision’s James Dolan, Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino, Universal’s Ron Meyer, as well as agents at several WME rivals.
And now in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Shelli Azoff is setting the record straight on her back-and-forth with Emanuel.
“Anybody who knows Irving and I know that we try to live our lives in a fair and honorable way,” she says. “I think that all of our emails to Ari show that.. I wish Ari success and happiness, now and always.”
