It’s hard out there for a grunge drummer. At 50, Matt Cameron is a member of the two biggest remaining Seattle shredders of the ’90s: SPIN profile subjects Soundgarden, and the Lightning Bolt-wielding Pearl Jam. As it turns out, both groups will be hitting the road next year, and Cameron has decided to hit skins with Eddie Vedder and co., leaving Chris Cornell and the others in a temporary lurch. The good news though: Soundgarden and Pearl Jam are touring in 2014.

The news came via the Soundgarden site:

Hello Knights of the Soundtable faithful, I will be taking 2014 off from Soundgarden touring due to prior commitments promoting “Lightning Bolt” with my brothers in Pearl Jam and the desire to have more time at home with my family. I am trying to balance the many twists and turns of my awesome music career. This is temporary. I am still an active member of Soundgarden. Chris, Ben, Kim and I are in the process of finding the perfect substitute for the upcoming Soundgarden dates in 2014. Thank you all for listening and the Years of Support! Loudest of Love. Matt Cameron

We already knew that the King Animal crew had plans for the South American editions of Lollapalooza next year. And we just saw Pearl Jam just hit Voodoo to astounding results. What’s more, fans can hear Cameron drumming for them on SirusXM’s Pearl Jam Radio channel, which will broadcast a complete concert from the Lightning Bolt tour every Friday starting today at 6 p.m. EST. Clearly there’s no bad blood, as Cornell participated in Jimmy Fallon’s recent Pearl Jam Week.
