Bruno Mars has been named Billboard‘s Artist of the Year.
The singer, who headlines the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show with his eight-piece band The Hooligans on Feb. 2, 2014, had one of the year’s best-selling albums, Unorthodox Jukebox. He also was No. 1 on eight of Billboard‘s year-end charts, including Hot 100 Artists and Top Overall Artists.
Following the news, Mars announced the second leg of his Moonshine Jungle World Tour, which will hit North America arenas and amphitheaters in 38 cities beginning in summer 2014. Among the cities on the list are Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago and Boston. Details on venues and on-sale information will be announced later.
Mars ends the year with shows on Dec. 29 and 31 at The Chelsea, the newest venue at Las Vegas’ The Cosmopolitan, before returning in 2014 for additional engagements in February, May and August.
Mars, nominated for four Grammy Awards, has sold 120 million singles worldwide and has scored the first five Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles faster than any male solo artist since Elvis Presley.
