Grammy-winning composer and musician Yusef Lateef has died, aged 93.
Known for his blending of jazz with Eastern instruments like Chinese flutes and the koto (as on albums like Eastern Sounds, above), Lateef would go on to experiment with new age on ’80s albums like Yusef Lateef’s Little Symphony and Nocturnes.
He recorded music long into his last years, and influenced decades of musicians both in and outside the jazz sphere. He died at his home in Shutesbury [source].
