Dr. Dre has shared further details of the forthcoming NWA biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton’, confirming that the film will be released on August 14, 2015.
As reported earlier this week, the film will tell the story of the hip-hop trio comprised of Dr Dre, Ice Cube and the late Eazy E. Dr Dre and Eazy E will be played by newcomers while Ice Cube’s son will take on the role of his father. Yesterday, Dr Dre tweeted an image of the cast along with the release date. See the photo below.
24-year-old O’Shea Jackson Jr will play a teenage version of his father while Dre will be played by Marcus Callender, a relatively inexperienced actor who has previous roles in Criminal Justice, Blue Bloods and Elementary. Dr Dre is believed to have wanted Michael B Jordan for the role but the actor is committed to The Fantastic Four.
Eazy E’s widow Tomica Wright has signed off on newcomer Jason Mitchell playing her late husband. Mitchell has no previous credits and is reported to have been working in a kitchen when he read for the role.
IMDB states that director F Gary Gray is attached to the film. His last big Hollywood title came in 2003 when he directed a remake of The Italian Job starring Edward Norton, Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron.
