Sam Smith makes US chart history with debut album 'In The Lonely Hour'

Sam Smith has made US chart history with his debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’.

The British singer’s LP scored the the best-selling week of any UK male singer since Soundscan started tracking sales data 23 years ago, selling 166,000 copies. His album however didn’t make the Number One spot in the Billboard chart, which was taken by Lana Del Rey’s second album, ‘Ultraviolence’, which sold 182,000. Smith’s single ‘Stay With Me’ has now sold over 1 million copies Stateside.

At home in the UK Sam Smith had the fastest selling debut album of 2014 so far with ‘In The Lonely Hour’. The singer’s first LP went straight to the top of the Official Albums Chart at the start of this month, knocking Coldplay’s ‘Ghost Stories’ off the Number One spot.
