One month after Kendrick Lamar covered Tupac Shakur‘s “California Love” at the iHeartMusic Awards, he has taken on some of the most iconic songs by other rappers in a round of hip-hop karaoke. Holed up in XXL’s office, Lamar goes at it alone as he figures out the karaoke machine and cues up Eminem‘s “My Name Is,” offering up a fair take on the rapper’s nasal delivery and Dr. Dre‘s husky guest spot. Next up, he tackles Jay Z‘s “Big Pimpin'”, wagging his finger and leaning forward to read the lyrics as they scroll by. And finally, the good kid, m.A.Ad city rapper tries his hand at 50 Cent‘s “Candy Shop” and “In Da Club” – until he is politely told he could stop.

Earlier this year, Lamar’s latest LP, good kid, m.A.A.d city was up for Rap Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards, but the honor ultimately went to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for their album The Heist. After the win, Macklemore texted Lamar that he felt bad about winning. “You got robbed,” he wrote. “I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and it sucks that I robbed you.” Although Drake chimed in that he felt the apology was “wack as fuck,” Lamar later said he appreciated the humility. “That text surprised me, but Macklemore is a genuine dude,” Lamar told Billboard. “However it panned out, I wish him much success. He touched people’s souls, and no one can take that away. Really, the whole Grammy moment was incredible. Not everyone gets that shot.”
