Rita Ora: Calvin Harris Blocked My Teen Choice Performance

Well, this is a bummer.

Rita Ora confirmed rumors Tuesday (Aug. 12) that ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris shut down her scheduled performance of “I Will Never Let You Down” at Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards. On Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, Ora filled listeners in on the behind-the-scenes drama.

“I was supposed to perform, and for anyone that doesn’t understand how it works, he wrote and produced the song — I mean, he’s an incredible songwriter, never going to disregard his talents, he’s incredible,” Rita said. “So [Harris] has to approve anything TV-wise, for anybody that doesn’t get it…so he has to approve the rights to [use the song] and he didn’t approve the Teen Choice Awards.”

Naturally, she was more than a bit bummed. “Yeah, I’m not gong to lie, but not for my own selfish reasons, but for my fans,” Ora said when asked if she was upset about the decision. “Because the show was going to be awesome…[but] everything happens for a reason, that’s how I look at it.”

A positive note: Ora will perform at the VMAs on Aug. 24, when she joins Iggy Azalea for “Black Widow.”
