BET HHA14

The annual urban fashion show, spectacle, non-stop party headquarters and celebration of urban music accomplishments is wrapping up from another smash weekend in Atlanta. Centered around the BET Hip Hop awards show, hosted by Uncle Snoop, this year’s award ceremonies featured 9 performances, 5 cyphers and a first-time-for-everything live cypher on-stage performance.

The taping, held at Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center, featured a green carpet full of celebrity faces from reality TV and music including Porsha Williams, Kandi Burrus, Trick Trick, Nelly, Boosie, DJ Drama, Busta Rhymes, Yo Gotti and Mila J. Leading with eight nominations was Drake, followed by Jay Z, Pharrell, and Future all with 6 respectively.

Rae Sremmurd opened the show with “No Flex Zone”, jolting the audience to their feet and warming up the crowd.  Other performances included Migos with “Fight Night” and “Handsome and Wealthy”; Bobby Shmurda “Hot N*gga” and T.I. closed out the show with a rock star performance of “About The Money” with Young Thug and a live band.

After their performance of “Kingdom”, taking a moment to reflect upon civil atrocities and injustice, Common, Jay Electronica, and Vince Staples took a stand with the parents of Mike Brown, while the audience put their hands in the air  for a moment of silence in remembrance of the Ferguson, MO teen who was gunned down by a white police officer in early August.

Making a surprise appearance were the beautiful (and ageless) R&B and rap Queens, Brandy, MC Lyte, Yo-Yo and Queen Latifah with a special performance celebrating the 20th anniversary of their “I Wanna Be Down” collaboration.
