#Festivus drops in less than 2 hours

Wale has been quiet–at least musically–pretty much all year. Until last week’s announcement, 2014 was shaping up to be the first year in forever that Wale went a full 365 without releasing either a mixtape, an album, or both. Well, never fear, for at 3:31 PM today, Wale’s latest mixtape, a joint offering with the legendary DJ A-Trak, Festivus, will hit the e-streets for all to stream, download, and nod to. Festivus, in keeping with the theme of Wale’s Seinfeld-inspired/assisted third LP, The Album About Nothing–for which this mixtape serves as a prelude of sorts–has sprung only two previews: a leak of “The Chess Game,” and this new record, “Loyalty,” featuring newcomer Dew Baby and Wale’s MMG labelmate Fat Trel.

“Loyalty” sounds like a drill record, but Wale opens it up with a rapidly accelerating verse, in which he switches flows and cadences seamlessly before handing off his baton to his talented underlings. It’s a rare sound from Folarin, but not one he’s stranger to, and expect him to experiment more with his sonic palette in about 90 minutes.

Festivus is coming, and once it’s here, you’ll be the first to know.
