Elton John published an image to Instagram revealing a handwritten note from singer Adele apologising for not being able to attend his wedding.

The veteran pop star and his partner David Furnish formally converted their civil partnership to a marriage on December 21, and Elton documented the event on the photo-sharing network.

In his final post from the day, Elton shared a picture of some of the cards and letters the couple received, with the message: “The perfect end to the perfect day. So many kind thoughts and wishes.”

Adele’s note reads: “Biggest congratulations my loves. Have a wonderful day. I’m sorry we are not there. See you in 2015. Love Adele, Simon and Angelo. X”

Kate Bush, Ed Sheeran, the Beckhams, Liz Hurley and David Walliams were among the big names in attendance at the ceremony, which took place at the couple’s Windsor estate in Berkshire.
