Another year, another long list of celebrity feuds.
Social media continues to make it easier for stars to engage in name-calling, hate-tweeting and Instagram-bashing than ever, as this year showed us. Below, 10 of the top Hollywood feuds of the year:
Iggy Azalea vs. Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg started it when he posted a photo of the “Fancy” rapper on Instagram mocking her makeup-free look. He then went on to compare her appearance to that of Marlon Wayans from White Chicks. For her part, Azalea expressed disappointment on Twitter, writing: “Why would you post such a mean pic on insta?” and “I’m disappointed you’d be such an ass for no reason.” (She later deleted the tweets.) But Azalea showed she can shrug off the criticism: The rapper went dressed as the Wayans character for Halloween.

Katy Perry vs. Taylor Swift
Swift reportedly became upset with Perry after the latter went after her backup dancers. In September, Swift gave an interview to Rolling Stone in which she said seemed to imply that Perry was the inspiration for the song “Bad Blood”: “For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’ Then last year, the other star crossed a line. She did something so horrible, I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy.” For her part, Perry tweeted, in a reference to Mean Girls that many took as possible confirmation the quote was about her: “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…”
Lorde vs. Diplo
A continuation of the Perry-Swift feud, this one kicked off when Diplo — whom Perry is dating — tweeted out: “Someone should make a kickstarter to get taylor swift a booty.” Lorde then stuck up for her friend, tweeting: “@diplo should we do something about your tiny penis while we’re at it hm”
Martha Stewart vs. Gwyneth Paltrow
The domestic doyenne and the Goop founder have been have been attacking each other in creative ways. Stewart said about Paltrow: “If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn’t be trying to be Martha Stewart.” To which Paltrow jokingly responded: “First of all, no one has ever said anything bad about me before, so I’m shocked and devastated. I’ll try to recover.” Not backing down, Stewart then ran an article about pie flavors in November’s issue of Martha Stewart Living titled “Conscious Coupling,” an allusion to Paltrow’s blog post titled “Unconscious Coupling” announcing her split from Chris Martin. Paltrow then followed Stewart’s lead and posted a recipe for “Jailbird Cake,” possibly a reference to Stewart’s time behind bars. What tasty piece of revenge will Stewart cook up next?
Bette Midler vs. Ariana Grande
Seemingly out of nowhere, Midler gave an interview to the U.K.’s The Telegraph in which she said: It’s always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice, a very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch looking so ridiculous. I mean, it’s silly beyond belief and I don’t know who’s telling her to do it.” Midler then offered up this advice to newcomers:”Trust your talent. You don’t have to make a whore out of yourself to get ahead.” For her part, Grande took the high road on Twitter: “Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgement! Not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!! always a fan no matter what my love.” Midler then had a crisis of conscience, offering this mea culpa on her own Twitter feed: “About my screed on @ArianaGrande, all I can say is, “Spoken like a reformed old whore! She does have a beautiful voice, on a couch or off.”

Demi Lovato vs. Kathy Griffin
During a Twitter chat with fans, Griffin was asked to share the “biggest douche celebrity” she’d ever met, to which the comedian replied: “Probably [Demi] Lovato.” She added: “Plus she should calm the f down bout Lady Gaga gettin barfed on.” (The tweets were later deleted.) Lovato then posted a photo of herself with Griffin in the background, which she captioned (and later deleted): “Only a ‘douche’ to people I can’t stand.” Griffin later revealed on Howard Stern’s talk show that “the death threats started a flowing,” and Lovato then asked her fans to stop “cyber-bullying” Griffin.
Justin Bieber vs. Orlando Bloom
This quarrel, reportedly sparked by a sexual comment that Bieber once made about Bloom’s ex-wife Miranda Kerr, can be see in video showing Bloom taking a swing at Bieber in July. Bieber then posted a photo on Instagram of Bloom appearing to wipe his eye, making him look weepy. Many in Hollywood hit Twitter to crack jokes: “This Justin Bieber/Orlando Bloom thing is the first time I’ve been interested in a featherweight match,” wrote Scandal star Joshua Malina. Meanwhile, someone created a petition at Change.org asking President Obama to declare July 29 “National Orlando Bloom Day,” asking that Bloom be honored for giving Bieber a “knuckle sandwich on behalf of the entire civilized world.”
Lady Gaga vs. Perez Hilton
Hilton added more fuel to the fire in their long-running feud when he gave an interview in July explaining what started the spat way back in 2011. Noting that the two were friends before she became famous, he said: “I think it was fame that just poisoned her. You know, what’s funny is that she has this album called The Fame Monster, it’s her second album, and she became consumed by that which she was fascinated about. Fame can be a very deadly drug and it has damaged her personally.”

Miley Cyrus vs. Selena Gomez
The “Wrecking Ball” singer never explained why she performed onstage with a cardboard cut-out of Gomez while singing her song “FU” (sample lyrics: “I got two, ooh, ooh letters for you/One of them’s F and the other one’s U/’Cause what you gotta do, is go get yourself a clue/Only two, ooh ooh letters to choose/One of them’s F and the other one’s U/SMH, I’m pressing send on you”). Following the Much Music Video Awards that same week, in which Cyrus lost out on favorite international artist to Gomez, Cyrus then sent out a tweet that many took to say she thought she was robbed: “wigged woting wis wack wust wayin” (some interpreted that to mean “rigged voting is wack, just saying”).
Annie Lennox vs. Beyonce
When asked about Beyonce calling herself a feminist at this year’s Video Music Awards, Lennox replied: “I would call that ‘feminist lite.’ L-I-T-E. I’m sorry. It’s tokenistic to me. I mean, I think she’s a phenomenal artist — I just love her performances — but I’d like to sit down (with her). I think I’d like to sit down with quite a few artists and talk to them. I’d like to listen to them; I’d like to hear what they truly think. I see a lot of it as them taking the word hostage and using it to promote themselves, but I don’t think they necessarily represent wholeheartedly the depths of feminism – no, I don’t. I think for many it’s very convenient and it looks great and it looks radical, but I have some issues with it. I have issues with it. Of course I do. I think it’s a cheap shot. I think what they do with it is cheap and … yeah. What can I tell you? Sex always sell. And there’s nothing wrong with sex selling, but it depends on your audience. If they’re 7-year-old kids, I have issues with it.” In a later interview, she further explained: “I was being asked about Beyoncé in the context of feminism, and I was thinking at the time about very impactful feminists that have dedicated their lives to the movement of liberating women and supporting women at the grass roots, and I was saying, ‘well that’s one end of the spectrum, and then you have the other end of the spectrum.’ She added: “Listen, twerking is not feminism. Thats what I’m referring to. It’s not—it’s not liberating, it’s not empowering. It’s a sexual thing that you’re doing on a stage; it doesn’t empower you. That’s my feeling about it.”
