Noel Gallagher has said his younger brother Liam Gallagher should make a solo album and “put his balls on the line”.

Noel added that he believes Liam’s fellow band mates in Beady Eye were “shocked” by the singer’s decision to call time on the band, which he announced on Twitter in October.

“I’m very fucking sad about Beady Eye, because I know they really wanted to make it work,” Gallagher told Q. “I wanted it to work for them. I was out with Gem Archer the other night. The vibe I’m getting is that it was a shock, although not completely surprising.”

Speaking about Liam’s next move, Noel said: “I’m amazed Liam has chucked it in, but he won’t stay out of the limelight for long. I think Liam should make a solo record – put his balls on the line, put his name up in lights and go for it.”

Liam has stayed silent since Beady Eye split. The break-up inevitably led to rumours that Oasis would reunite, though Noel has stated on several occasions that wouldn’t happen. However, he has said that he and Liam are talking again, following Oasis’ acrimonious split in 2009.

Gallagher was speaking before the March 2 release of ‘Chasing Yesterday’, the second album under his alias of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. He revealed in the interview that one of its songs, ‘Lock All The Doors’, “nicked a bit” from Buzzcocks’ 1978 punk classic ‘Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)’. Two other songs, ‘The Mexican’ and ‘The Right Stuff’, are reworked from the sessions Gallagher had with psychedelic duo Amorphous Androgynous, which were initially intended to be released as a companion album to 2011’s debut self-titled Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds album. Gallagher said: “I love the way all these things sit on the same record.”
