The Weeknd's 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Single Debuts in Top 20 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs

Netting the Hot Shot Debut on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, The Weeknd enters at No. 15 with “Earned It,” his highest debut ever on the chart. The song appears on the soundtrack for Fifty Shades Of Grey, the film adaptation of the best-selling novel by E.L. James to be released in theaters on February 14, 2015.  The sultry track debuts at No. 2 on R&B Digital Songs, also his best arrival on the list, shifting 92,000 downloads in the week ending Dec. 28, 2014, according to Nielsen Music.

Meanwhile, The Weeknd also hops 25-23 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with “Often,” in its 20th week, approaching its prior peak (No. 21) reached on the December 27 chart week. He leaps 40-22 on the Billboard Artist 100, reaching his best ranking in his 11 weeks on the list.

Big Sean Shoots To No. 1: On R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, Big Sean achieves a new No. 1 as “I Don’t F**k With You” jumps 5-1 in its 13th charting week. The song saw a five percent rise on-air, reaching 22.8 million audience impressions at the format, according to Nielsen. It takes Digital Gainer honors on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, where it crowns the list for a fourth week, increasing 145 percent (to 168,000 downloads) — more than doubling its highest sales week (68,000 the week previous).

Minaj Moves Up: Also attaining a new No. 1 at on the airwaves is Nicki Minaj, who climbs 5-1 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop with “Only” featuring Drake, Lil Wayne & Chris Brown. It marks her fifth chart-topping title on the list, the rapper also gets the Greatest Gainer tag rising 12 percent at the spin-based format. She previously led the list with “Your Love” (2010), “Bottoms Up” (Trey Songz featuring Minaj, 2010), “Moment 4 Life” (featuring Drake, 2011) and “Make Me Proud” (Drake featuring Minaj, 2012).

Digital sales of the “Only” shoot up 146 percent, to 131,000 downloads, stepping 3-2 on Rap Digital Songs. Over on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, it spends a second week at No. 2, after crowning the chart for one week on the list dated Dec. 27, 2014.
