Kanye West has discussed working with Paul McCartney, saying he bought ‘angst’ to the sessions, like John Lennon would have.
West commented of working with McCartney on ‘FourFiveSeconds’ and ‘Only One’: “We just went in and we vibed out. As you can see, I might be a little bit more ‘angst’ than Paul. And remember the last time when Paul had somebody really ‘angst’ working with him, the type of music they made?”
Speaking on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, via Rolling Stone, he explained that he wasn’t directly comparing himself to the late Beatle, John Lennon. “Hey, everyone, America, I’m not comparing myself to John Lennon,” he said. “I’m just saying I’m ‘angst’ a bit like John Lennon. And the tension, the ‘salt and pepper’. I mean, maybe that’s bad because it sounds like ‘black and white’, but the tension creates a new magic. The pressure creates the diamond from the coal. And he came in with the best vibes ever. And I said, ‘Four, five seconds from wildin’,’ and he said, ‘It’s great, everyone.’ And we just had that.”
West also revealed that he and Taylor Swift are set to record new music together. “Yeah, she wants to get in the studio and we’re definitely gonna go in,” he said. The two musicians were photographed together at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 8), showing that they’d patched things up following their infamous fall-out at the MTV VMAs in 2009, when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech to argue that the Best Video award should have gone to BeyoncĂ©.
