Nelly performs gig in Iraq to support victims of ISIS

Nelly has played a concert in Iraq’s region of Ebril, Kurdistan as part of a benefit concert in support of victims of ISIS.

The rapper performed at the event on Friday (March 13), which was organised by the Rwanga Foundation to raise money for people displaced by recent conflict. According to the group, Nelly has become “the first American artist to perform in the city’s 8,000 year old history” and played to around 15,000 local people.

Rwanga Foundation’s Director or PR & Media, Taban Shoresh said: “We are delighted and proud that the city of Erbil hosted this landmark charity concert and would like to thank Nelly for his involvement. The event was here to celebrate the people of this city, promote peace, and a chance to raise money for the millions of people who have been affected by the ongoing conflict.”

Last year, a Californian radio station played Nelly’s 2002 hit ‘Hot In Herre’ for three days straight. 105.7 Latino Mix was being rebranded to Hot 105.7, hence the song choice, and played the track over an entire weekend before its relaunch. [NME]
