Markus Wenzel has been promoted from managing director of Universal Music Publishing Germany to the new role of president, UMP Germany and senior VP, Austria, Switzerland.
With immediate effect, Wenzel will report in this expanded position to Paul Connolly, president of Europe and U.K., UMP, and Frank Briegmann, president Central Europe & Deutsche Grammophon Universal Music International.
“I could not be more pleased to recognize Markus Wenzel with this well-deserved promotion,” comments Jody Gerson, chairman & CEO, Universal Music Publishing Group, in a statement. “Markus has been a tremendous strength for our German operation, and his leadership, creative abilities and accomplishments have helped build the company into an industry powerhouse in the region.”
Wenzel has been with the company since 2002, when he was appointed as managing director of Universal Music Publishing Germany. He later took duties for Universal Music Publishing Group’s entire operation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, overseeing UMP, the production music companies UPPM and Kapagama, as well as Ricordi, Universal’s classical music publishing company.
Wenzel began his career as a music manager and label executive, with stints at BMG Ariola and Sony Music and, prior to Universal, ran his own Superstar Recordings imprint.
