Key Speakers At The Digital Entertainment World Conference

Rio Caraeff, the founding CEO of music video service Vevo, has joined Magic Leap as chief content officer. Caraeff, who made the announcement Wednesday on his Twitter page, left Vevo at the end of 2014.

Florida-based Magic Leap is a technology company that has developed an augmented reality platform. The information the company has released has been limited and cryptic. CEO Rony Abovitz has described Magic Leap as “techno-biology” that “is the proper application of technology to our biology that leads to the experience of magic.” There’s speculation Magic Leap is creating a headset that superimposes digital images onto a user’s real-world panorama. A video (below) the company released in March shows a person performing virtual office tasks with actual hand swipes, playing a virtual shooter game with an physical (fake) gun, among other things.

One well-known fact about Magic Leap is it’s well capitalized. Google was the lead investor in a $542-million funding round in October.
