Spotify App

Spotify is now the world’s most popular streaming music service, according to a new report from app analytics firm App Annie.

The champion title formerly belonged to Pandora, but in the past year Spotify moved to the top of the game in revenue, active users and app downloads, with predictions the Swedish company’s leading margin will grow in the months to come.

In the United States, Pandora still leads for most active users on iOS and Android devices. Meanwhile, Spotify leads in Australia, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and most of Europe.

The digital music streaming business climate has seen a number of new players enter this past year. TIDAL ranked at No. 5 on App Annie’s ranking of top music streaming apps by revenue worldwide across platforms, though it did not appear in the top 10 worldwide music streaming apps by downloads. Apple Music and YouTube Red will be fighting for increased marketshare as well.

The study also notes that overall, streaming services that offer an on-demand library such as Spotify have been the apps moving up in the ranks, as opposed to those that provide interactive or non-interactive radio streaming.
