After splitting with Interscope Records in 2015, American Idol season 13 winner Caleb Johnson is moving on to the next chapter with the launch of a new PledgeMusic campaign.

The Asheville, N.C., native — who released his album Testify shortly after his Idol victory in 2014 — is putting the finishing touches on a new EP, which will be released later this year. In another move, Johnson has been added to the client roster of McGhee Entertainment, home to Richie Sambora, Orianthi, Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker, Paul Stanley and Kiss, whom Johnson joined onstage at the American Idol finale.

Although the record is a work in process, Johnson gave fans a taste of the musical future with the release of a new song, “Holding On,” available now on iTunes.

“It will be be released later on in 2016, however for my superfans — that’s you guys — I want to get you involved and give you a special experience NOW,” he wrote on the website.

In a video, the 24-year-old singer explained that fans will have access to behind-the-scenes footage, photos and other incentives. “All the ins and out of making this rock and roll record that I poured my heart and soul into,” he said. (Watch the PledgeMusic video here.)

Some of those incentives include an Asheville brewery tour and a private studio “hang” in Nashville.

Recently, Johnson returned to the Idol stage as a mentor to hopefuls Sonika Vaid and James VII.
