Today the music industry has received some saddening news first reported by The Washington Post that Chuck Brown passed away today due to complications from pneumonia at the age of 75. Consider to be the “Godfather of Go-Go,” the guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer is credited with developing the style of funk music that widely spread throughout the Washington D.C. area back in the 1970s to compete with the dominance of disco. Brown’s group, Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers, had a hit record in 1978 with their single “Bustin’ Loose,” which topped the R&B singles chart, and later went on to be sampled by hip-hop artists such as Eric B. & Rakim, Public Enemy, and most popularly in Nelly’s 2002 single “Hot In Herre.” In the short clip below, The Washington Post’s Chris Richards remembers Chuck Brown by giving brief insight to Brown’s life. –Hypetrak
