NBC’s Friday night Hurricane Sandy: Come Together telethon raised $23 million for the Red Cross to help families affected by the storm. Performers included Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, who ended the show with a moving “Land of Hope and Dreams,” Christina Aguilera(“Beautiful”), Billy Joel (a reworked “Miami 2017 [Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway]”), Jon Bon Jovi(“Who Says You Can’t Go Home”/“Livin’ on a Prayer”), Sting (“Message in a Bottle”), Steve TylerJoe Perry and Brad Whitford (“Dream On”) and Mary J. Blige (“The Living Proof”). The emotional highlight may well have been a version of “Under the Boardwalk,” with Jimmy Fallon joining Tyler, Joel and Springsteen, prompting Jon Stewart to remark, “”Jimmy Fallon is a bold man to take the lead vocals from those three.” Meanwhile, MTV has announced a benefit Restore the Shore, featuring the Jersey Shore cast members, to air Nov. 15 at 11 p.m. (ET/PT) to raise money to rebuild the show’s Seaside Heights home. MTV will team with non-profit group Architecture for Humanity, which helped to rebuild Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and Biloxi and New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. You can donate to the Red Cross by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 pledge. [HitsDailyDouble]
