Matt Marshall has been named SVP A&R at Concord Music Group, reporting to Fantasy Label Group President Margi Cheske. He’ll manage all A&R activities for the FLG, which includes Fantasy, Hear Music, Stax and Concord Records. The 1988 Vassar grad took his psychology degree to Zoo Entertainment in 1990 as manager of A&R admin, where he spent quality time with Tool and our own Bud Scoppa (now his Studio City neighbor), and enthusiastically agreed with label head Lou Maglia every time he said a record “knocked my dick in the dirt.” Matt went on to A&R gigs at Epic (signing Modest Mouse and Tenacious D), RCA (co-signing Velvet Revolver) and Warner Bros. (inking and/or A&Ring Iron & Wine, Flaming Lips, Jenny Lewis, Built to Spill, Deftones, Devo and Josh Groban) “Matt’s passion for working with creative, visionary talent combined with his smarts and keen instincts, will help build upon Concord’s reputation as a home for great artistry,” said Cheske. Added Marshall: “I’ve greatly admired the remarkable success and independent spirit Concord has nurtured. I couldn’t be more excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with such a talented staff and contribute to this great company. And no, I didn’t use this quote when I took my last gig.”
