Matt Marshall has been named SVP A&R at Concord Music Group, reporting to Fantasy Label Group President Margi Cheske. He’ll manage all A&R activities for the FLG, which includes Fantasy, Hear MusicStax and Concord Records. The 1988 Vassar grad took his psychology degree to Zoo Entertainment in 1990 as manager of A&R admin, where he spent quality time with Tool and our own Bud Scoppa (now his Studio City neighbor), and enthusiastically agreed with label head Lou Maglia every time he said a record “knocked my dick in the dirt.” Matt went on to A&R gigs at Epic (signing Modest Mouse and Tenacious D), RCA (co-signing Velvet Revolver) and Warner Bros. (inking and/or A&Ring Iron & WineFlaming LipsJenny LewisBuilt to SpillDeftonesDevo and Josh Groban) “Matt’s passion for working with creative, visionary talent combined with his smarts and keen instincts, will help build upon Concord’s reputation as a home for great artistry,” said Cheske. Added Marshall: “I’ve greatly admired the remarkable success and independent spirit Concord has nurtured. I couldn’t be more excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with such a talented staff and contribute to this great company. And no, I didn’t use this quote when I took my last gig.”
