The Black Keys are entering the recording studio this week to begin work on their brand new studio album.

The band, who released their seventh album ‘El Camino’ in 2011, aim to finish the recording in March with a provisional release date of late 2013. Speaking toUncut about their plans, guitarist Dan Auerbach said: “We’re going to start making the new album in the second week of January and we’re hoping to have it done by some time in March.”

He added: “Then we have a couple of weeks of touring, then we’re going to take the summer off, which we haven’t done for a while. The record isn’t written yet, we’ll do it when we get into the studio. This is when we both work best, when we’re dying to make an album. All of our records take place in the studio, in that we make stuff up while we’re there.”

Drummer Patrick Carney recently confirmed the plan for a new Black Keys album in 2013, revealing: “It [an album] is definitely gonna happen in 2013. It’s just a matter of how long it takes us to make the album and deciding when we want to get back on the road.”

The Black Keys’ next album will be their eighth. Prior to ‘El Camino’, the blues-influenced duo released ‘Brothers’ in 2010. In late 2012 The Black Keys played their biggest UK shows to date, touring arenas across Britain with The Maccabees supporting them on all dates. [NME]
