Los Angeles rapper ScHoolboy Q and his fellow TDE artists may currently represent the sound coming out of the West Coast, and despite representing his coast, Q says there was a point in his life when he was a way bigger fan of East Coast music than West Coast.

ScHoolboy shared that particular news while speaking on “Break The Bank” producer Alchemist and his work with East Coast rap duo Mobb Deep during an interview with DJ Whoo Kid.

“Yeah, First Infantry all the way,” he said. “He did with Mobb Deep. Yeah, that nigga was amazing…I used to like East Coast music way more than West Coast.”

The Black Hippy rapper again remained tight-lipped about the artists featured on Oxymoron, but did confirm that A$AP Rocky will appear on one version of the LP. He also shot down any rumors of Dr. Dre lending any assistance on the album and offered a few words of praise for Wu-Tang Clan veteran and Oxymoron collaborator Raekwon as he spoke on the Staten Island rapper’s down to Earth persona.

“I want that to be a shocker too. I don’t wanna give away too much,” ScHoolboy said. “I already told people Raekwon is on there…Raekwon is the God. You know what I’m saying? And he’s probably one of the most realest niggas. Like you can reach him and he gon’ hit you right back. You see him in traffic he gonna show love. He tell you he likes your shit, but actually tells you what record he likes instead of just saying ‘Oh yeah, I fuck with your shit.’ Like you fuck with Raekwon. Once you meet him you like ‘I gotta get this nigga.’”

ScHoolboy also offered some insight into his album’s cover art, which features both himself and his daughter. According to Q, the cover for Oxymoron represents all the bad he’s done to provide for his daughter.

Oxymoron is all the bad I’m doing to do good for my daughter,” Q said. “[Whether] I’m selling drugs or robbing. Gangbanging, whatever it is I’m doing. You know what I mean? It’s to do good by her. And that’s why you got me with the ski mask [on] the standard. The one that’s gonna have 12, 15 records on it. You got my daughter on there with the same hat. She looks innocent. You know what I mean? But at the same time she’s still trying to mean mug. She’s on top of the throne.”

After a handful of delays, ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron album is currently scheduled for release on February 25. In September of last year, Q addressed the delays and revealed that the album was pushed back in order for him to release a perfect product.

Oxymoron is finished. I finally turned it in,” he said. “They probably thought I was having label problems. I just wasn’t ready, so I just kept recording and recording and recording. It’s like your baby, so you want to make sure it’s perfect. ‘Cause this could make you or break you, ’cause I could really fall off. Rappers do it all the time.”
