SNAPCHAT WANTS TO START A RECORD LABEL

The high profile leak of Sony Entertainment’s documents has revealed Snapchat’s expressed interest in starting a record label.

Thanks to the hack, emails between Sony Entertainment’s CEO Michael Lynton and Snapchat’s CEO Evan Spiegel were released and express Snapchat’s interest in building a record label. According to Sony Music President Dennis Kooker, Snapchat’s interest in the music industry has to do with the fact that:

“[Spiegel] thinks every music service in the market is shit and he wants to be a curator. He doesn’t want to build a music service but he would like to have a record label so he could focus on the artists that he wants to use the platform to promote.”

At this time though there is no evidence to suggest that fleeting 10-second records are in the works.
