Nile Rodgers Reveals Daft Punk’s Next Move

Earlier this month, Nile Rodgers brought disco back in a big way when he signed a deal with Warner Brothers Records that would produce the first Chic album in over two decades. Though the record won’t be out until June, a single is expected to drop on March 20 – and Rodgers has gifted fans a few previews to tide us over until that happens.

Last week on Twitter, the Chic frontman shared a still from a “touching” film made for the forthcoming LP by none other than Daft Punk, whom he helped achieve Grammy success with their 2013 album Random Access Memories. The still (below) shows a faint image of the two iconic robot heads along with the words, “We are sending you this transmission to thank you for all your amazing songs.” According to Rodgers, the full film will be here “within the next few weeks.”

At this time, some parts of the world will experience total solar eclipse, which to Rodgers is “symbolic of the rebirth of Chic.”

It will contain two songs. The first, “I’ll Be There,” is dedicated to his late partner and Chic co-founder, Bernard Edwards, and it’s about the “origin of Chic, and how dance music changed our lives forever.” The music video was shot during New York Fashion Week, and it stars model Karlie Kloss, who shot a Vogue editorial with Daft Punk around the time of Random Access Memories’ release.

The second, “Back In The Old School,” features NYC house duo The Martinez Brothers and serves as commentary on dance music and its power to unite. Both tracks, as Rodgers writes, are a “tribute to The Original CHIC Organization – musically, artistically and spiritually…which in my heart allows me to Close The Circle.”
