Adele's '25' Set to Surpass 5 Million Sold in First Three Weeks in U.S.

Adele’s 25 album is set to surpass 5 million copies sold in the U.S. by the end of its third week on sale, according to industry forecasters.

Sources suggest the set could sell another 650,000 copies in the week ending Dec. 10. In its two previous weeks (ending Dec. 3), it sold a mighty 4.49 million, according to Nielsen Music.

25 debuted with a record 3.38 million sold (the single largest sales week since Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991), and sold another 1.11 million in its second week.

It should come as no surprise then that 25 should also easily rule the weekly Billboard 200 albums chart for a third straight frame.

The Billboard 200 ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the new Dec. 26-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Adele is expected to be No. 1) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s Web sites on Sunday, Dec. 13.
